April in Paris - Charming
Isn't this too charming? These photos are part of a spring auction by Artnet.com - a marvelous collection of iconic fashion, portrait and vintage photography.
Paris has been home to a number of legendary artists and writers, including Samuel Beckett, James Joyce and Pablo Picasso. The sale includes two photographs of Samuel Beckett taken by Bob Adelman in 1986. A pensive James Joyce is the subject of a 1937 gelatin silver print by Joseph Breitenbach.
Cash Back Credit CardsFashion photographers also figure prominently in the sale, including The Mainbocher Corset, Paris, the intricate design of American couturier Mainbocher, photographed by Horst P. Horst for Paris Vogue in 1939. Three photographs by photojournalist Robert Doisneau celebrate the eccentricities of everyday Parisian life including Chicken on a Leash, 1940.
A selection of vintage works from the nineteenth century as well as images of Paris by a newer generation of photographers round out the show.
